The work-group “Health in Prison” (HiP) has conducted a health assessment of women prisoners exposed to torture three decades after their liberation. In collaboration with Khiam Rehabilitation Center, HiP evaluated the factors that protect women from Post-traumatic Stress resulting from exposure to distinct torture events. Psychosocial prison environment

The central OPPH in Spain has conducted several assessments about the psychosocial environments in prisons in Spain. Findings were published in influential occupational health journals including Journal of Occupation Health, Occupational Medicine and Stress and Health. Read findings below

Drug Policy

The Addiction and Drug Abuse (ADA) work group aims at evaluating the implementation of drug policies in the MENA region to support advocate elaborate healthy policies for the prevention of drug use and the reduction of harms among persons who use drugs (PWUD).

Work ability & Psycho-social hazards

The observatory of Public Policies and health, in collaboration with the University of Alicante, carried out an assessment about work ability in association with psycho-social hazards. The aim was to describe work ability and to assess the association between work psycho-social risks, age and work experience with work ability among prisoners. The results revealed that older more experienced workers and workers in large prisons showed significantly lower WAI (Work Ability Index) scores, the results also showed that interventions to improve work ability among prisoners may benefit from this study. The study was published in Occupational Medicine.
