The Visual Health Project
R-IDP work group of OPPH has received a grant from the University of Alicante in Spain to promote the visual health of Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. In collaboration with the Lebanese International University, the project aims at the secondary prevention of vision disorders and the promotion of visual health among refugees.
Phase one of the project has been concluded. Screening among a sample of refugee population in Bekaa district for vision problems showed that around 50% of the population have vision problems. Eyeglasses will be supplied for 300 refugees in the first phase.
The second phase of the project aims to provide an overall assessment of vision problems in refugees in Lebanon. The solidarity campaigns in Europe has managed to allocate more than 10,000 eyeglasses for donation.
The project aims at improving the well-being and the academic performance of children refugee population. Expected implementation: January 2018-November 2018.
