The Visual Health Project

R-IDP work group of OPPH has received a grant from the University of Alicante in Spain to promote the visual health of Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. In collaboration with the Lebanese International University, the project aims at the secondary prevention of vision disorders and the promotion of visual health among refugees.

A pilot study has been concluded in January 2018. Screening among  a sample of refugee population in Bekaa district for vision problems showed that more than 50% of the population have refractory problems. Eyeglasses were supplied for 300 refugees in this pilot phase.

The second phase of the project aims to provide an overall assessment of refractory problems in refugees in Lebanon. The solidarity campaigns in Europe has managed to allocate more than 10,000 eyeglasses for donation.

At the long run, the project aims at improving the well-being and the academic performance of children refugee population. Expected implementation:  2018-2019.
