The Observatory of Public Policies and Health

OPPH is a civil society organization created in Lebanon in 2011. The observatory aims to promote health and to confront the health inequalities among marginalized population groups in the Middle-East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Workgroups & Projects

The Observatory of Public Policies & Health works for the promotion of health of disadvantaged population groups. It aims to identify the major social determinants of health of community groups and to gather evidence of effective strategies to promote their health. Each work-group target a marginalized population group to promote its heath.

The Observatory of Public Policies and Health, in collaboration with the Public Health Research Group of University of Alicante, is carrying a research study on the access of Syrian refugees to COVID-19 testing. This project is financed by the East Mediterranean Health Office of the World Health organization. This study is conducted in Lebanon.

Results of the research study on the effects of conspiracy beliefs on vaccination intent for COVID-19 are published. Results showed that it’s important to understand how exposure to conspiracy theories and fake news influences healthy behavior, in order to plan an effective response to the Covid-19 pandemic and to increase vaccination intent.

Results of the research study on online breastfeeding support groups after the Beirut explosion are published. Results showed that social media has been revealed to be a valuable community resource linked to encouraging women to breastfeed and fostering community resilience during times of crisis.
